Added series, now it's missing - Abby's

Postby andrewjhead » Wed Sep 19, 2018 2:44 pm

Greeting folks!

I added a series just a little while back and have been adding data to it as the network makes it available prior to airing. But today I noticed that it's just missing. No message, no warning.

What's the story? What should I do? I don't want to put all the info back in again just to have it deleted. I had actors/characters a couple of images, show description, links to tv.com... We all know how much work it is to get a show going so I don't want to keep recreating it without knowing why it got deleted.

I'm pretty sure it was at https://www.thetvdb.com/series/abbys

trakt (https://trakt.tv/shows/abby-s) picked up the show from my creation at some point also at had it linked to here:

https://www.thetvdb.com/dereferrer/series/347414

here's info on the show:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7768346/?ref_=nv_sr_1
https://www.nbc.com/abbys

Thanks!

I'm just speculating here, but there's been a hard-line against adding series without at least a concrete first episode airdate and title for a while now.

That's such a shame. Given the time it takes to get everything together, uploaded and entered - some of these new shows (especially mid season shows) will end up airing before we can get a decent profile put in place.

Not gonna lie, it would be nice to see some of these "hard-line" rules reflected in the interface. Would save us all a lot of time and questions. I'm all for strict moderation to keep things clean and accurate - but people really seem to be operating in the dark around here based on what I read in the forums.

I never understood the difficulty in waiting for an airing confirmation - though waiting for a title in an easily-updated field never made much sense to me, either.

Well, lots of people use the data for applications like Sonarr. If the series doesn't exist in this database - you can't add it to your downloader to monitor for.

I've added LOTS of shows to my downloader over the last few years that didn't have first episode dates. Keeps me from forgetting about them. This time I wanted to add Abby's, but it didn't exist yet so I figured I'd give back for a change.

I guess what bugs me the most is that I carefully read every page as I created the series to make sure that I followed all of the rules and specifications. Then it's just gone with no warning or explanation. Not even a notification.

You had two, though it probably should be clarified on the Add Episode page (maybe up top like Add Series and Add Season?) that new episodes need a minimum of a confirmed date and generic title to not be removed (cascading into 4 hours on empty season removal, 24 hours on empty series removal).

That said, it's worth noting that the current series listing pages don't display airdates despite 1x1 having that data entered, so it's entirely possible to pick up a series that doesn't appear to have proper dates on first blush.

The new series Roswell New Mexico didn't have an air date for the first episode until I added it yesterday. It's database ID number is less than the one was for Abby's - so it was in the database first but remained despite not having any sort of air date.

Abby's was deleted, because it lacked an air date or episodes titles. Roswell does have episode titles.

The title of the first episode of the series is currently listed as "Pilot" and was entered as such. As I'm sure you already know, lots of series never have an official/creative title for their first episode. Including the show Roswell. So I can't see the episode I created being titled "Pilot" as being a factor.

https://www.thetvdb.com/series/friends- ... /seasons/1
https://www.thetvdb.com/series/psych/seasons/1
https://www.thetvdb.com/series/breaking-in/seasons/1
https://www.thetvdb.com/series/the-big- ... /seasons/1
https://www.thetvdb.com/series/american ... /seasons/1

The only difference I could see between the show I created and Roswell was that they have 3 episode titles instead of 1. Is that a factor?

I'm just trying to lock down how much information I need to have before recreating the series. Do three episode titles outweigh the lack of an air date? Is there a formula? Or was it removed by a person?

I'm not trying to be argumentative, I'm just seeking clarification.

Yes, most pilots are called "pilot". That doesn't mean, that the first episode won't have an episode title. It just means it's placeholder until it's official called pilot or an episode title. And we do not add preliminary data. Roswell having actual episode titles does indeed make a difference.

We just don't want to add data up for a series, that will perhaps air in 6 months, a year or later. Because once data or fanart is up there, it won't magically disappear from most sites, which sync from thetvdb. Everything from cast to title to network can still change. So please don't add a series until you have actual information to add. A series title, network and actors are simple not enough.
