Why aren't the early stories numbered?

It's really difficult to see where one story ends and the next begins without them.

Not sure what you mean, could you be more specific?

The first four episodes comprise of a story arc called "An Unearthly Child", yet unlike all the later stories and even the story arcs in the new series they're not numbered so there's nothing differentiating those episodes from the episodes from the next story arc, "The Daleks". And it continues like that until "The Savages" at the end of series 3.

Here's a link to evil inc:

It shows each of the story arcs and the episodes that comprise them. It may not be a good source but it says exactly the same thing as everyone else, including the BBC, all the official DVDs and every doctor who fan who ever existed, but it says it on a single, neatly organised page.

This is the new series:

You can see how the few story arcs are treated there. Theoretically the first four episodes of classic doctor who should be numbered (1) to (4) and all the others should be numbered appropriately according to the number of episodes in their respective story arcs.

Oh, so different episode names but part of one story. Gotcha. Assumed they'd have the same title (don't know why). Early in the morning here...
I don't see why not, unless another mod objects, do you want to do it?

It's locked.

Personally I've already named mine as such:

Doctor Who - 01x02 - An Unearthly Child (2) - The Cave of Skulls

But that may be going a tad far. Just adding the numbers should make searching slightly easier though.

It took them almost three whole seasons to realise that that way would be easier, and they never looked back (until the new series, but that's supposed to be comprised of mostly one episode stories anyway.)

Coming up with unique names for each episode must have become too much for them.

Go for it! Yes, just add the numbers for now.

OK, now that I've stopped panicking, it's done...

Did you really just unlock Doctor Who, or was I given special permission somehow??

I'm not sure why this is there

Galaxy Four Introduction

It's not an episode and I thought episodes with number '0' weren't allowed anyway.

If it should be there at all it should be a special.

I unlocked it, figured we could risk it for a bit :)

Not sure what the 0 episode is there, the picture looks very familiar though. I'll figure it out.

Thanks for updating it, looks great.
