Whose Line Is It Anyway? (US)

Whose Line Is It Anyway? (US) has begun airing again since CW is trying to pad out their other shows for sweeps with all the production shutdowns.

TheTVDB is treating these as a *continuation* of season 15 but other sources (Futon Critic, Wikipedia etc) are treating these airings as season 16.

I'm not sure which is correct since everything is so chaotic but thought I'd at least bring this up.

On the other side of the coin, Tribune (zap2it) is treating this as a continuation of "season 7" (they count the ABC and CW as separate series).

CW's site is considering it season 15 but the episode numbers don't match thetvdb (thecw's page is showing "Amber Riley (Ep. 1511)" as a new episode this week.).

Yeah, the CW is still considering it a continuation of season 15. The numbers are off by one due to an episode that they classified into an earlier season that we classified into this season (see the prior discussion):

Also, in my reading of the press release, they say "new season" in the other shows, but only "new episodes" in the description of whose line:

The CW's successful summer trio of WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY?, PENN & TELLER: FOOL US and MASTERS OF ILLUSION all make their return in June. The sixth season of MASTERS OF ILLUSION premieres with back-to-back new episodes Friday, June 7 (8:00-8:30pm ET/PT and 8:30-9:00pm ET/PT). On Monday June 17, the comedy magic series PENN & TELLER: FOOL US (8:00-9:00pm ET/PT) returns for a sixth season followed by all new episodes of the hit improv series WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY? (9:00-9:30pm ET/PT and 9:30-10:00pm ET/PT).

I looked at whose line's official twitter account, and that is indeed calling it a new season. So, looks the cw website is lagging behind in getting the numbering right.

Oops, that is apparently not the official twitter. I think this is:

So, I have no idea if they've really started a new season or not...

It makes no sense to be a continuation of the previous season. Just look at the previous seasons. They start in June for example and end in September.
They are always in continuation. It makes no sense for an episode to be in September and the next episode be in the next year 7-8 months later.
It's a new season.

The Futon Critic and Zap2It can sometimes be useful as supporting sources, but they're not reliable enough to stand on their own.
On the new poster The CW released for Whose Line Is It Anyway?, its March 30 return is promoted as a "new season". See here.
Also, the filename has "S8" (Season 8) in it, because this new season is the show's eighth on The CW (and thus its sixteenth in total).
Therefore, unless someone can provide solid evidence to the contrary, I am determining that the new episodes should be listed under Season 16.
