Last year's In Search of on the History Channel is listed both as season 8 in the old series from the 70s and as a separate series. I believe it counts as a new series, if so please delete season 8 from the original series. Below is the link to both series.

After looking at the old series some more I think season 7 is also a separate series, it was a new host on a different channel (the Sci-Fi channel) approximately 20 years after the original ended.
In Search of... (2002) would have to be added to the database since it doesn't appear to already be there.

Hi there,

Welcome to our team of moderators! 8-)

I did actually discuss this matter with Christy, but we had a hard time coming to a conclusion.
Personally, I feel like there should only be one record for In Search Of…, seeing as how it's still the very same premise and concept, just with a different host. And it fits with the way we handled other revivals — Tales of the City comes to mind as a good example, but I'm sure there are quite a few more. It's worth noting, however, that we do have a separate record for the 2019 Ripley's Believe It or Not! revival, but perhaps it only exists because no one has deleted it yet… I'm not sure if it's actually in alignment with our policy.

I know the network has also changed — but we'll have the network at the episode level (rather than the series level) in the upcoming V3, so that should help us address cases like this (along with many other shows that have switched networks).
I am also aware that IMDb lists the Zachary Quinto-fronted season separately from the previous season, but honestly, IMDb has rarely been a source we rely on when weighing decisions like this. (They also listed Hulu's 2019 revival of Veronica Mars as a separate entry for a while, before deleting it and adding the new episodes as Season 4 of the original series.)
As for the different hosts, we plan to have actors at the episode level in the future, so that should also help.

To summarize, we definitely need to (and plan to!) review and perhaps refine our policy concerning reboots, revivals, etc. — but I think Scott is just too busy working on V3 and preparing for the launch to deal with it right now.

Since you mentioned Ripley's Believe It or Not there's 3, well 4 but I don't think the animated series counts, versions that don't repeat from one series to seasons on another. I don't mind how it's done I just like it to be consistent. In fact I asked this same question before it aired

In my mind Ripley's and In Search of are completely new versions of older ended shows, but America Unearthed for example is a continuation of the same show just a few years later and on a new network. I'm happy to go with whatever is decided.
