DC Super Hero Girls (2019) Specials Clean Up

Postby Cryanger » Mon May 13, 2019 9:59 am

I'm bringing this up because it involves deleting a number of episodes, and I though it best to bring it up for discussion when advocating the elimination of someone else's hard work.

DC Super Hero Girls (2019) Specials is essentially a list of every video posted on the YouTube DC Super Hero Girls page, minus "Trailers" for upcoming videos: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRdVJ9XqHCb6BqApCIO_TYg/videos

Compare that to Justice League Action's Specials (https://www.thetvdb.com/series/justice- ... /seasons/0), which are also mostly from the DC Kids YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyu8StPfZWapR6rfW_JgqcA/search?query=Justice+League+Action

DC Super Hero Girls (2019) seems to be listing every single video posted as a "new" episode, despite how some of them are just a conglomeration of clips. Compare that to Justice League Action, where in there are still ongoing clip videos being posted, but these are not included as new Specials.

I suggest that the only YouTube videos for DC Super Hero Girls (2019) that should be considered actual episodes are any that begins with a hastag (#), the Get to Know (they have in-character voice over), and the Official Trailer for the series. The hashtag episodes are actually new content, while the Get to Know episodes and the Official Trailer were hype videos to drum up interest in the (as of then) unreleased series. That means every other Special episode, starting with #17, should be deleted as there is nothing new about them. That's 9 episodes of just clips.

This would bring the show into cohesion with Justice League Action (as well as Teen Titans Go! and Batman: The Brave and the Bold), which doesn't list their clip videos as actual Special episodes. Either that, or the clip videos need to be added to Justice League Action's Specials, which would be the more difficult and work intensive decision.

Hi there,

You forgot to include a link to the series on TheTVDB:
https://www.thetvdb.com/series/dc-super ... ted-series

Is there any other official source where we can see an actual episode guide?
There are currently 48 episodes in the Specials season, which means you're asking quite a lot of episode deletions. I just want to be fully informed before we proceed.

Mea culpa for forgetting the series link.

Unfortunately, no, I have no actual episode guide to go by, just by the behavior of TheTVDB in regards to similar shows. The Cartoon Nework site https://www.cartoonnetwork.com/video/dc-super-hero-girls/episodes/season-1.html lists the show's actual episodes, but for Minisodes it lists the shorts for the previous incarnation of the show and none of the 2019 ones. Wikipedia and any other Wiki site suffer from the ease of alteration that TheTVDB is trying to curtail. The DC Kids website https://www.dckids.com/dc-super-hero-girls/videos posts the same videos that their YouTube chanel does -- they're direct links.

The closest I can claim to an official list is the names given to the videos on the DC Super Hero Girls YouTube channel and their use of the hashtag # in episode and short names. It is meant to denote actual new material as opposed to clips.

Unfortunately, the channel isn't consistent and recently didn't include the # for the Stained Fighter short or today's short, Cruz Control, which are both new material. But if you watch the video until the title card comes up, you'll see the # by their names.

Without the #, a quick rule of thumb would be if the video isn't about 3 minutes long, its a clip (shorter than 3 minutes) or a compilation of clips (longer than 3 minutes).

To be fair, there is some actual behind the scenes content that doesn't match the rule of thumb that could validly be left on there, like the Get to Know shorts, or adding The Super Crew or Ask a Superhero Girl videos.

Yeah, I realize that it's a lot of investigative work and deletions. The list is now 58 videos long, and it's that very explosive growth that worries me. The continued addition of just anything with the DC Super Hero Girls name on it is filling the Special section with what is essentially ads for the show instead of actual content, and makes the list seem overzealous and, well... amateurish. But that's just my opinion, and other than what's written above, I have no other "evidence" to provide.

Okay, it seems someone has started a separate series page for DC Super Hero Girls' YouTube shorts: https://www.thetvdb.com/series/dc-super-hero-girls-super-shorts It has the proper episodes listed in its Season One page, BTW.

Checking on Justice League Action (a show that had a similar situation of a regurlar television series with online shorts), I see someone has started a page for their YouTube shorts, but it has no episode data yet: https://www.thetvdb.com/series/justice-league-action-shorts

I'm at a loss as to which direction the site is going. Is this how TVDB wants to deal with webisodes now? Does there need to be a revision of what constitutes a New Series guidelines?

Is it possible to create a special type of season listing (Season W, say) specifically for webisodes?

Sorry, I'm not trying to be difficult. I'm just trying to figure out the best, most intuitive way to resolve this.
