Grand Designs

Postby Hopkins » Sat Nov 13, 2010 12:11 am

I have (like others) noticed that the episodes for Grand Designs (UK) are all over the place in the database. Specifically, there are many revisited episodes (and others) that are completely in the wrong order.

See this thread too... http://forums.thetvdb.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4138

This conclusion is based on the aired order and the episode list on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Grand_Designs_episodes

I have my episodes as per wikipedia/aired order

The result ... library mode in XBMC and Plex's new PMS end up with a completely wrong database.

What can we do?

I am happy to spend some time updating the TVdb, but I don't want to mess up other peoples' setup if they have already worked around it?

Maybe start a new version of the entire series and then when it is agreed that it is all correct, we get rid of the old one?

What are peoples' thoughts?

My first thought is that Wikipedia isn't a source. Please read the stickies and come back with a comparison of some valid ones.

Newbie here..... I'm also puzzled by the Grand Designs listings...

May I ask what is the source then for Grand Designs listings? Is it not odd that the order of the originally aired dates differs from the episode number sequence? Were they broadcast out of order?

Cheers
D2K.

I geuss I'll provide the links, as I have the same question;
Grand Designs: http://thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=79264&lid=7
It's starts at season 2 (http://thetvdb.com/?tab=season&seriesid ... 8636&lid=7)

The wikipedia page is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Gr ... s_episodes

Could someone look in to it?
Thanks in advance!

Btw. I couldn't find any episode numbers on the official site....
2nd; I checked with some of the sites that are 'valid sources'
So I think Wikipedia is the beste source for this, but I could be wrong. Of course I'm new here, so if someone could look in to it, please!

I am in the process of putting together a (rather long) document outlining a proposal for renumbering the Grand Designs episodes on tvdb. I have looked at a number of sources in an effort to put together a "definitive" episode listing. Almost finished it.

When done, I propose to post it here for comment/review before (maybe) moving forward and revising the database.

Hi, this is my first post on the forum, although I have contributed over the years with tons of images and tv show info. Never had an issue until now.

I'm not sure what happened, but compared to what the episodes used to be for Grand Designs, everything is now out of whack. So it seems someone simply went ahead and renamed all episodes to suit their needs. (http://thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=79264&lid=7). However, from posts above and elsewhere there did seem to be some misalignment of episodes anyways. So I have been sitting here for 2 hours trying to rename all my files to line up with what someone has corrected. It seemed more correct than what the episode structures were before.

Anyways, I had a discrepency however:
In season 8, episode 8 (http://thetvdb.com/index.php?tab=episode&seriesid=79264&seasonid=30207&id=3438711&lid=7), the episode was renamed to:
08 - Revisited - Midlothian Lime Kiln House
I rename it to:
08 - Revisited - The Wooden Box, Peterborough

Based on evidence of: 1) there is no other reference to it anywhere else 2) this was what it was before 3) http://www.tvrage.com/shows/id-11187/episode_list/8
If this is not correct, post it here, and please suggest an alternative for the episode that I cannot find anywhere else.

When I am done renaming my episodes I will be requesting to lock Grand Designs seasons 1-9 to prevent anyone from changing all these episodes (AGAIN). If anyone has the need to completely overhaul an entire series again, it would be nice to let everyone know about it first.

Thanks.

Well, it looks as though I am going to have to start my comparison document all over again.

The new listing on tvdb looks somewhat better than it did before. However the revisited episodes are still all over the place. They generally do not seem to follow air dates. In the earlier seasons, the revisited episodes have been grouped into the season when the original show aired, but then in later seasons they are shown in the season in which they actually aired.

So my conclusion is that the listing is still a mess and needs work - now different work than what was needed before!!

I agree with the concept that the db shouldn't have been just updated until some sort of consensus was reached.
