Season 2011 of Frontline (PBS) is missing. Anyone know why?

It was probably swept as an empty season, it'd need at least one confirmed, unique episode to cement its position.

28 Syria Undercover 11/08/2011
27 Lost in Detention 10/18/2011
26 The Anthrax Files 10/11/2011
25 An Optimist in Haiti 09/27/2011
24 The Man Behind the Mosque 09/27/2011
23 The Wounded Platoon 09/20/2011
22 The Interrogator 09/13/2011
21 Faith and Doubt at Ground Zero 09/07/2011
20 Top Secret America 09/06/2011
19 The Atomic Artists 07/26/2011
18 Doctor Hotspot 07/26/2011
17 The Pot Republic 07/26/2011
16 Educating Sergeant Pantzke 06/28/2011
15 The Child Cases 06/28/2011
14 WikiSecrets 05/24/2011
13 Kill/Capture 05/10/2011
12 Fighting for Bin Laden 05/03/2011
11 The Silence 04/19/2011
10 Football High 04/12/2011
9 The Private Life of Bradley Manning 03/29/2011
8 Who's Afraid of Ai Weiwei? 03/29/2011
7 Money and March Madness 03/29/2011
6 Revolution in Cairo 02/22/2011
5 A Daughter's Death 02/15/2011
4 Post Mortem 02/01/2011
3 Flying Cheaper 01/18/2011
2 Are We Safer? 01/18/2011
1 Battle for Haiti 01/11/2011

I see prior discussion in the forum of moving 2011x05 to Specials, but no indication of broader problems with the 2011 season.

Yeah it was definitely not an empty season. How does an entire season go missing? 2011x05 was moved to specials because it was confirmed it never aired, I believe. I concur with the accuracy of the listing posted by benfishbus, although I'd note you could make a good case for E17-E19 being one episode, being that they aired on the same night and that the recording I have from that night says "tonight...3 stories on this special edition of Frontline"... They were each like mini-stories, and I'd argue it would be better listed as "The Pot Republic & Doctor Hotspot & The Atomic Artists". However, I don't believe this specific series has done this historically.

However, if we are keeping these "mini" episodes airing on the same night as seperate episodes, we need to add one - right after E03. It was aired as the 3rd of 3 episodes on 1/18.

The recording I have is similar to the previous example..."tonight, on a special edition of Frontline, 3 stories..."

Forgive me for the triple post, but it's also worth noting that there are other similar cases in this season -
E7-E8-E9 are also presented in one broadcast as 3 mini-episodes,
E15-E16 are presented as two
E24-E25 are presented as two

It happened in 2012 (E18-E19 being aired on the same night as two mini-episodes), and they were added as two seperate episodes. However, in E02 of Season 2012, they also presented two mini-episodes, but they were not broken out. Only the first is listed (The Secret War) and not the 2nd (Fighting for Bin Laden).

How are 2-3-segment episodes handled in other seasons? How are they posted on PBS Video?

Can this season be fished out of thetvdb’s bitbucket or is it up to us to recreate it?

For the most part, it appears that Frontline only did these combined mini-episodes on one night for a couple years. I found the above examples just looking at 2011 and 2012, but I expanded my search looking for same air-dates to the surrounding years as well, and found very few. In 2016 they broadcast two episodes on the same night twice:

As you can see, those episodes are treated differently - not broken out seperately, but as one, and listed as episode 1 / episode 2. IMHO, that's how it should be listed. I did not search every season, just 4-5 years on each side of 2011.

I neglected your other question. It's a bit hard to match them to Frontline's website, as PBS has moved to Season XX format instead of Season 20XX format. I think I've brought up my thoughts on this in another thread so I won't rehash that. However, you can see examples: ... n-hunters/

In that example, the TVDB listing neglects the 2nd episode: ... es/5406731

Same with this double-episode: ... oko-haram/ ... es/4988560

The PBS website presents some difficulties as they don't list all episodes. I'm hoping Indigo can shed some light on whether this season can be recovered from the Recycle Bin in some fashion or whether entirely new data needs to be created.

In regards to Season 2011, I have the episodes that year and the "full" episodes are 53m and the shorter episodes are 21m.
The complete list in that order are here:

Frontline does not apparently list mini-episodes, but the full episodes for what I have as Season 2011 start with episode 5 on Season 29 of their page and ends as Episode 5 of Season 30:

So even forgetting the mini-episodes, where should s29e05, e06, etc. be in the thetvdb? Currently Season 2010 ends with S29E04 Facing Death and Season 2012 starts with S30E05 Opium Brides, missing all those in between.
