Here is more info for the new episode 7
Airing 2015-08-29 Mythbusters vs. Jaws
In 2005, the MythBusters took a dive into shark-infested waters to test theories from the 1975 classic film "Jaws." In the episode, the MythBusters revisited the epic final scene of "Jaws" and tested whether shooting a scuba tank with a bullet would actually make it explode. The myth was busted, but many viewers thought they got it wrong. Now, ten years later and to coincide with the 40th anniversary of "Jaws," the MythBusters are back to test new ideas, theories and angles from the film. MythBusters vs. Jaws will not only retest the scuba tank explosion, but will also attempt to find out if the sounds of Orcas and the smell of dead sharks repel sharks.

While I still tend to think of them in seasons because there are long breaks between new episodes in a single year and I'm worried how this is going to affect my Plex library and Sonarr. Personally I'd still rather we just remove all ambiguity from Discovery's erratic release schedule and switch to a year system once and for all and then we never have to worry about deciding when the seasons start and end again.

I thought you followed TV Rage on this one? That is what the site says.
http://www.tvrage.com/MythBusters/episode_list
For example Unfinished Business S15E12 is incorrect and on THETVDB is S16E06
I use Schedules Direct which lists this episode as S15E12.

I'll say it again, as I posted the link above: Adam Savage himself said that what is the season finale of season 15 on TVDB is really a season finale. It's pretty clear that TVRage is simply wrong if one of the show's creators disagrees with what they're saying.

As for switching to year numbers as seasons, my worries above still stand. How would you handle it when, like now, the creators call something a season finale and they start a proper new season in the same year? And what do you do if in 2016 a season starts in December and spills into January? Awkward split? Have a 2016 season with episodes aired in 2017? A 2017 season with episodes that aired in 2016?

Yes, Mythbusters is a tricky show. But for the past three seasons Adam (and when they were still there: Kari, Tory and Grant) tweeted a lot about episodes and they mentioned premiers and finales every single time a season started or ended. It should be easy enough to use that as a source rather than degrading into an awkward semi-solution that will call for ambiguous solutions.

To clarify we would not follow arbitrary and sometimes unclear seasons. We would literally list the 2016 episodes in 2016 and the 2017 episodes in 2017. There's absolutely no ambiguity here. Also to return to the original point, we'd be listing them exactly in the same format as the official website which provides a very sensible source.

So "your seasons" won't match up to the real thing at all? You will be the only one calling them a season?
AWESOME!!!

(I just don't understand how you consider this a good thing)

hikaricore wrote:Greetings site members and lurkers!

I wanted to let you folks know that the moderators and admins have been debating the topic of Mythbusters seasons internally and are seriously leaning towards listing the series by year numbers instead of (potentially arbitrary) seasons.

As you all know almost every source and site across the internet disagrees in one aspect or another on the matter.
You may or may not know that the official episode guide has at some point in the last year or so switched to a year based listing: https://www.discovery.com/tv-shows/myth ... -episodes/
This is one reason (of the many) we're considering the change, however it was thought that we should bring it to the attention of the site members incase there is any valid/viable concerns.

I'll be starting the process of switching to years in a couple of weeks so everyone should get their comments in now.

It should be noted that the following types of statements will be ignored:
"I don't want to rename my files", "This doesn't match the dvd release", "Wikipedia says otherwise" and of course "Where are my pants?"
So....THIS was the day you decided to break the database.
It should be a sticky.

They will match the real thing as the official website lists them by year, also this is a sticky and has been since I started the thread.

All the latest season aligns with iTunes listing pretty good. I mean why not just use that listing seem it's the closest to what we already have on TVDB. pretty sure no one wants to see three season debuts in the same year.

iTunes source directly from the production company.

BTW for people who are still questionning that this is S15. Here's the new season description on iTunes.

MythBusters, Season 18

This season Jamie and Adam will investigate the homemade machine gun from the Breaking Bad finale, fan favorite video games, laser blasters from Star Wars and more to show what's real and what's fiction.

They currently list this season as S18. So this would mean breaking that infamous season 8 in three (pretty sure most people would agree all the problems cames from that season anywais, yeah those Buster's cut episodes shouldn't be listed as regulars in the first place or at the very least list them consistently).
