Anybody know why Posters are 1000 x 680 ? This is a ratio of 25:17 and I've never seen that before! I'd be really curious of the history! I did a comparious of various "standards" in a chart below- it is quite interesting, we are somewhere in the middle
Seems like the easiest way to make a poster for thetvdb is to try to obtain a poster with a 4:3 ratio such as 1024 x 768 or 1000 x 750, and the from there crop it down to 1000 x 680. Is that what others are doing too, or is there an easier way?

Standard Large Poster (36 x 24) = 3:2 - width is 66.7% of height
Poster for theposterdb.com (1500 x 1000) - 3:2 - width is 66.7% of height
Poster for themoviedb.com (750 x 500) - 3:2 - width is 66.7% of height
Official Movie posters distributed to theaters for them to display on the wall
also known as One-Sheet size) 1016 mm x 686 mm (40 x 27 in)
which is a bit more than 3:2 - width is 67.5% of height
**Poster for thetvdb.com 1,000 x 680 = 25:17 - width is 68.0% of height
Standard Medium Poster (24 x 18) = 4:3 - width is 75% of height
Scientific Poster for a Conference (36:48) = 4:3 - width is 75% of height
Standard Sheet of Paper in US/Canada (11 x 8.5) - width is 77.3% of height

Hi! Thanks for gathering all of this info. Right now, I believe people have been cropping images from 680x1020 to 680x1000. As someone who works for the site, this has also always bothered me — I believe in the future we'll adjust the size requirements for posters, but unfortunately I have no info on when that might be. But we will keep this post handy!
