Alternate episode list/grouping for a series

Postby Tarrasque » Mon May 28, 2018 6:47 am

I encountered several cases in which the order, the number and/or the grouping (2 episodes at a time instead of one) of the episodes as aired in one country changed from time to time.

For example, in the first TV airing, only a selection of episodes of a cartoon series have been aired, and in random order. Then later a complete edition is released.

This is particularly of relevance when as sometimes happens, episodes of one series are grouped differently in different countries, and you use TVDb as the info provider for Kodi or Plex.

How can this be reconciled with the current new site? Should a new series be added for the new episode list? If so, what should be used for the series name since the slug must be unique?

No duplicate should be entered ever. The only order that matters for this site is the way it aired first in it's country of origin. Any other airing orders are irrelevant to this site. Any duplicate series entered for another countries airing order will be deleted
All PM's asking for exceptions, rule changes, series unlocks et al will be ignored.

Just zis guy, you know?

For the main series, yes, but haven't we been pushing Alternate Airings as a big reason to support Alternative Orders instead of allowing eighteen international editions of a single series - which would result in massive duplication and resource waste?

May one ask what the intention of this db is?
- To provide valid information for the majority of users?
- Or to provide information regardless of usability?

There are good examples why rules should be rules.. with exceptions!
E.g. a tv show is produced in a country where the stations only sending 15 minute shows.
International standard is normally 25-30 or 40-50 minutes.
Now an international platform (e.g. Netflix, Amazon, etc.) is bringing out the show worldwide they re-edit it to app. 45 minute episodes.

Which could mean
50.000 people saw it in 15-minute pieces in the land of origin while
50.000.000 people see it in 45-minute episodes all over the world.

Well, either you haven't thought about this impact before (and are stubborn now)
or you have thought about it but decided not to care who is using your db (what will this say about you?)

In both cases you could show real greatness by providing a way to serve both groups:
the "origin purists" and
the "majority of users"

Who will support this platform if it doesn't think of the majority of users?
