Pokémon: incorrect amount of seasons

Postby ibramyqg » Sun Sep 16, 2018 10:54 pm

Currently there are 21 seasons of Pokémon. They are not 18 seasons. All this starts from season 14, that are 50 episodes in that season and not 84 episodes. The same goes for the following seasons until the 18th, all those have the wrong amount, while from season 1 to season 13 they have the correct amount of episodes.

None of those are broadcast sources.

So what sources are you looking for if the official pokemon.com website is not accepted?
Can someone with the right privileges please correct the season information, as it has been pointed out several times that the information in incorrect please consider that we are not pulling a prank and the information is indeed incorrect on thetvdb.com.

besides this topic here at least two other topics asking for corrections:

sources showing the correct seasons:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Pok%C3%A9mon_episodes_(seasons_1%E2%80%9313)

As I'm a complete newbee on this forum I'm probably not allowed to do this but I have the spare time and am willing to help correct this for all of us.

It's gonna be information about the Japanese broadcast, not the US broadcast.

Things like this (all the way at the bottom) seem to have a list of what episodes go to which season. I am not sure it has all the seasons listed however, or all the episodes.

But, let's take the example of what appears to be the "first" season. It is listed here.

However as noted before, the entire page lists only seven series. This seems to concord with the usual MAL/ANN secondary sources somewhat as those also have fewer generic umbrella series, but obviously will upset many viewers using the US broadcast information used to about 20 seasons.

The series titles (or seasons, if they can be considered as such?) listed on that Japanese website I found:

The following three all use the same logo so they are either one block or three depending on interpretation of the separation to different html pages or unification under one banner/logo:

Pokemon
Orange
Gold and Silver

The following four use different logos possibly signifying different blocks or seasons, and with subheaders on respective pages such as BW and XY:

Advance
Diamond and Pearl
Best Wishes (Black and White)
XY

For comparison, MAL and ANN have the following entries (using generic umbrella titles such as grouping XY and XYZ together due to similarities):

Pokemon (includes Orange, GS)
Advanced Generation
Diamond and Pearl
Best Wishes (includes S2, Episode N, Decolora)
XY (Includes XYZ)
Sun and Moon

If we combine the original, Orange and GS we can easily reach concordance with MAL/ANN on the number of larger umbrella titles at 5 (not including currently airing Sun and Moon.) That's not necessarily the goal but it's simply using those allowed secondary sources as cross references and sanity checks.

Afterwards it will depend on the interpretation of dividing according to Orange and Gold and Silver, as well as the Best Wishes (Black and White) and XY / XY&Z subheaders on those pages.

In my opinion if the website uses any degree of separation between episode blocks (different html page, different subheading) it probably represents a different season.

The result of such a classification would be, with each line representing a season here on TVDB:

Pokemon
Orange
Gold and Silver
Advanced Generation
Diamond and Pearl
Best Wishes
Best Wishes Season 2
Best Wishes Decolora Adventure
XY
XY&Z
Sun and Moon

For a total of... 11 seasons. Even less than what's currently here, and obviously less than the US broadcast which would still make people unhappy.

All this assumes that this Japanese website didn't revise history and the seasons/broadcast which would disqualify it from being usable according to the last update posted in the OP here. The web archive for this specific page I found only goes back to 2006 after all...

Please note that this is not an official decision from site staff, but merely my own discussion on the matter of Pokemon seasons.
