Hi. Pixar Shorts series is a total mess.

https://www.thetvdb.com/series/pixar-shorts/seasons/all

Could you please re-title season one as season 1984 and delete the episodes "Mike's New Car", "Jack-Jack Attack", "Mater and the Ghost light", "Your Friend the Rat", "BURN-E", "Rescue Squad Mater", "El Materdor", "Unidentified Flying Mater" and "The Little Match girl"? These episodes does not belong here.

Then, could you please re-title season two as season 1986 and season three as season 1987 and finally move every episodes from every season (except for the specials) in their specific year's season?

In the end, could you please delete empty episodes from specials, season one, two and three? Thank you.

And this is an example of why some things are locked.

I see. This is why I try to ask you moderators to fix series, because people mess up them...

Hi, I'll try again. Pixar Shorts series is a total mess.

https://www.thetvdb.com/series/pixar-shorts/seasons/all

These episodes does not belong here. Some of them are specials, other belong to WDAS.

Then, could you please re-title season two as season 1986 and season three as season 1987 and finally move every episodes from every season (except for the specials) in their specific year's season?

In the end, could you please delete empty episodes from specials, season one, two and three? Season three has all duplicated episodes except for Bao, so this is the only short that has to remain. Thank you.

Done.
Please re-number the episodes in each season, and also, let me know why you're asking that the aforementioned episodes be deleted. What is WDAS?

Equinox, if you haven't already found an answer to your question, WDAS stands for Walt Disney Animated Studios. CJJ97 discusses this in another of their posts (viewtopic.php?f=7&t=57517).

Woah, talk about making a big change! From 3 seasons to 23, made a complete mess of my home database. I have to admit I'm a little surprised this request was actioned given the lack of Sources of Truth provided. Was there a separate conversation held outside of this post?

Given this considerable change has been made by the mods, I'm guessing there is good reason for it so I'm happy to go with the flow. Especially as CJJ97 seems to be well-read on the subject. If I could make one suggestion however, it would be to arrange all the episodes in a single season rather than one season per year? The new arrangement isn't very practical when you consider that a number of seasons only have one episode. This is how 'series' such as The Academy Awards (https://www.thetvdb.com/series/the-acad ... /seasons/1) operate.

As an aside, I understood that the previous three season setup had some loose connection with the DVDs (Pixar Short Films Collection, Volume 1, 2, 3), upon which individual users had then added additional episodes to satisfy their own purposes. While I appreciate that this approach didn't follow the rules, possibly include some non-Pixar Shorts titles and resulted in duplicates from indiscriminate user additions, it was at least easier to navigate than the new setup.

Just my thoughts.

Hi there,

Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts. I can definitely appreciate that it was an upsetting change to some, and I apologize for making a mess of your home library. This request, along with others made by CJJ997, has been discussed outside of this thread between myself and other members of the team. You can also check out a response from another moderator to a similar request here.

I can't say I was thrilled about doing this, knowing the effect it would have on people's libraries. But to show why I went ahead and did it, I'll quote someone who's been around much longer than I:

The primary focus of TheTVDB is archival accuracy of TV airings; always has been, always will be.
With that in mind, sometimes when we have a record that's in such a terrible state, I would argue that making it right must be prioritized, even at the expense of breaking some people's libraries. If we always put the effect a change would have on people's libraries as a foremost factor, that would mean a lot of things just wouldn't get done, and then how could TheTVDB be "the most accurate source for everything TV"?

You (and others who visit this topic) can see what a mess this record was before the change:
https://web.archive.org/web/20191112111 ... easons/all

And yes, you're right, CJJ97 didn't provide any sources of truth. But when you think about it, all they really asked for was that blank episodes be deleted and that remaining episodes be rearranged into year-based seasons. No air dates or episode titles were changed.
Given that the record in question isn't actually a series, but rather a collection of discrete shorts all attributed to the same studio, there's never going to be a source that tells you what the makeup of seasons is, and so I felt it was right to use year-based seasons as we often do when there isn't an official season designation. The way the seasons were previously structured made no sense to me—Season 1, for example, had "episodes" with air dates ranging from 1984 to 2009—and no one was offering any input as to why it was like that. Admittedly, I didn't know that the previous three-season setup had some loose connection with the DVD volumes, but still I think given our policy that using year-based seasons is preferred.

I understand the current setup makes this record more tricky to navigate. If you want, you're welcome to add DVD order metadata to the episodes, thus forming an alternate arrangement where the episodes will be broken down into seasons based on the DVD sets. Feel free to do that as the record isn't locked. When V3 launches (should be really soon, I'm told) you would also be able to very easily set up an absolute order where all the episodes are in one season.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
