The network site as well as other sites (Gracenote and the streaming sites) have it as a regular episode (despite the content). I agree that Discovery/Scripps shows are a huge problem - but the internal discussion was that there has to be compelling evidence to override the network listing (if the show page and/or it's official network streaming site have conflicting info). If there isn't a convincing alternative source - just content alone isn't enough to override the numbering. The show's official site has S09E22 as a regular episode. Gracenote, Amazon, etc have it that way. What source do you have that numbers this differently?

probably the biggest one being "Fire and Ice" being advertised as the "finale" after it aired https://twitter.com/Gold_Rush/status/11 ... 9349184513 mostly

It looks like there were two specials aired before and after "Fire and Ice", both helping reinforce its designation as a season finale. Before the episode, Discovery aired "The Dirt: Finale Night", whose description begins with "The mine bosses face off to discuss tonight's fiery Gold Rush finale." Then a "Finale Aftershow" special followed, where the three mining teams discussed "the richest season in Gold Rush history," and the bosses revealed secret plans for next season.

Discovery also lists the "Parker's Trail" episodes as episodes 23 through 31 and then episode 119 of Gold Rush Season 9, whereas on TheTVDB Gold Rush: Parker's Trail is its own series, under which these 10 episodes are listed as Season 3. So that's another reason to take their episode numbering denotation with a grain of salt.

I feel like that, coupled with the aforementioned tweet and its "recappy" nature*, is sufficient evidence for us to deem "Three Sides to Every Story" a special. Therefore, I have now moved it to the Specials season.

*The overview reads:
Sit down with Parker Schnabel, Rick Ness, and Tony Beets as they discuss the biggest moments from this past season of Gold Rush.
