i went to the fanart wiki page and it has no text there with the rules and regulations, where did tht pg go? i hope its not just me? also i hope this is in the right section

Yeah, we lost it after recovering the wiki backup. We'll either recreate it or recover a more recent backup. Sorry. In a nutshell, they need to be 1280x720 or 1920x1080. They shouldn't contain a lot of text, logos, etc. Finally, do not stretch small images to make fan art... we'd rather have no fan art than poor quality art.

that explains why my fanart got deleted

Not quite sure where this post would go, but a bunch of us over at xbmc.org are using djh_'s new skin Aeon (Auriga Build) And it has started supporting 16x9 Season Thumbs. Now The only place i get my images is from the TVDB and we wanted a centralized place to put it. I know the wiki Says (or will say ) that it contains no text or logos, but for a series 16x9 pic this is required. Maybe this should be a feature request, but I'm not sure it's necessary to add a new type of image to thetvdb just for this, I think using fanart with just the title is fine. Thoughs?

It really is a cool format. Combined with the fact that Aeon is the most popular skin for the most popular media center app, I'm reasonably certain we should allow these. In the new design I think I'll allow flagging of banners to designate whether they include the logo or not, in addition to anything else we think is important.

In the meantime, feel free to add fan art with logos, but make sure you're only doing a couple per series or we'll have to lock it down. I'd personally like to see JUST the top 1 or 2 fan arts get the logo added.

I dunno, are you sure Scott? The way it's done in the example link you gave could easily be handled in XBMC (in fact I'm pretty sure it is right now), simply have the program write the needed text automaticly.There is no reason to change the site rules for it to work. Also as he's talking about doing this on a per season level we'd either have to allow fanarts be added by season or allow them to tag what season they are being added for, otherwise they'll have to grab everything manually from the site which kinda defeats the purpose of the site.

Edit: Unless that was just a typo and you meant to say series not season. In which case I'm with you, although we should add a way to tag it as including the series name.

Coco and I discussed this some more via IM. To clarify, this makes sense at the series level. We don't have fan art at the season level, nor will we ever (too much bandwidth/resources). Your "16x9 Season Thumbs" terminology caused confusion. In a nutshell, allowing fan art with logos/text is just something we've discouraged up to this point. To encourage it I'll add a "Includes series title or logo" flag in the new system, which will allow XBMC or other apps to automatically download those. The season level ones are just blanks with the season overlaid by djh.

Awesome. This totally makes sense. And I agree with you both.

And they're just nice to have fanart with no text also, we figured since it was the same image format that a small db change could be made. Thanks so much you guys! We're really hoping this format catches on with more skinners.

Oh, Scott there is one other thing we missed. We not only have to tag them as including the title but now fanarts also have to have languages attached to them.

It's some pretty minor changes to the interface but you may want to hold off on adding a bunch of these until it's changed otherwise you're just going to have to go back through and mark them once it is changed.
