The different .hack series are clumped into one, when they are different shows. It would be like clumping all of the different Gundam series into one with different seasons. Can this please be cleaned up? Also, can aliases for each of them be added like "hack sign" or "dot hack sign" so apps that use the api can have an easier time searching for these? With the funny characters in this series it makes it difficult. I would happily do it, but I don't think I have the rights.

With the exception of the OVAs these are all direct sequels of one another taking place in different points on the .hack timeline. They were merged for a reason and won't be split again. If the Gundam series are direct sequels they will eventually be merged as well, if not they'll stay as is. For more information see here: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=8537#p34885

I guess so, but they aren't really seasons either.

How about getting the aliases added?

They are here. The aliases are already in place, they just aren't searchable via the api and won't be until the new site is done. (no eta)

I don't get this "They aren't seasons" thing that pops up with Anime. Just because anidb decides to list seasons seperately (which gets really weird with multiple entries with the same name like Bakuman.) people somehow see this as being definitive.
It's a season. Anime airs in seasons/blocks. I can see how it can get confusing/unwieldy with constantly running shows, but why people get confused by series that air in clearly defined blocks I don't know. Nobody treats Mad Men as a series of sequels.
*confused semi rant over*

Just because there are multiple series set in the same environment does not make them different seasons. There are big gaps between the release dates. They have unique titles. They have completely different characters. In this case, it is not a season. Are the two Full Metal Alchemist series also seasons? Hardly, There are lots of anime that do have seasons, but I believe this to be a unique case. You guys seem pretty set in your ways though and I am not going to waste any energy convincing you otherwise. So much for an open database community when the mods do as they wan, even if it doesn't make any sense.

Well, since you don't care that's perfect for me because I don't care either. Btw, your mention of FMA is laughable since the 2nd one is a remake of the first which more properly follows the manga and has no actual relevance to your intended point. Bye bye now.

Sure is unique case around here.

Also, everything in the database is open... until there are conflicts or problems, at which point we have to lock things, otherwise everything just gets vandalised and fucked up. Shouldn't even have to explain that, really.
