Only mods add to it. If you have some you want to add then let us know. Unless we see a lot of requests like this it's unlikely we'll open it up to general users as most shows should never use the field.

I dont think I understand the reasoning behind making that one field one that only mods can alter? Why should most shows never use that field?
For instance I notice 'Doctor Who (2005)' doesn't have anything listed for AKAs. IMO an appropriate list may contain 'Dr. Who' and or 'Dr Who' and I would have happily have added them (I did try!) except that I can't. Is there a benefit to keeping that field closed to users that I'm not aware of? Its not checked against search queries yet of course but ideally will be eventually...

If the Doctor Who example was not an example of an accepted use of the AKA field, could you provide an example that would be accepted?

As things are chanigng with the new site design only one of those would have been a good aka. "Dr Who" makes some sense, I don't really see many people typing that but we can add it. We're trying to get issues with quotes, comma's and other punctuations worked out automaticlly with the new design, so simple things like that shouldn't be added.

Like I said though, once it really starts getting used we'll see if we get lots of requests to add aka's, if we do we'll most likely open it up for user editing. Most shows just don't have alternate names which is why I said most shows would never use it.

Ok I know I'm dredging up an ancient thread here but it's exactly my current problem. More specifically I believe from my tests that the alias system is now in place but is still missing a key part. From what I can tell the api is able to interpret searches for tv show names that have ':' in it but only if the main title for the show is used. If you are out of luck and it's the alias that has the ':' character, it won't match.

Example 1:
Tv show: "Gold Rush", alias: "Gold Rush: Alaska"
This show you will be unable to find if you ask the API for "Gold Rush Alaska".

Example 2:
Tv show: "Spartacus: Blood And Sand", alias: "Spartacus: Vengeance"
This show you will be unable to find if you ask the api for "Spartacus Vengeance" BUT you will be able to find it if you use "Spartacus Blood And Sand".

Any info would be appreciated,
Pulse

To be clear, the alias field isn't used at all by the api. It's currently in use by the on site search.

hi, i'm new here, so feel free to slap me, but...

i'm using Plex. i have a bucket of documentaries with less than accurate file names, so i'm trying to match them to thetvdb entries, so that Plex can then go and retrieve metadata.

even once i work out where a doco/episode comes from, when i got to search for that episode name, there doesn't appear to be a way? i can only search on series name, not individual episodes? or am i missing something "obvious"?

thanks, Anthony.

Searching by episode name isn't possible. It's a feature we will include in the new site.
