Hi all,

I don't mean to dredge up any further debate on the age-old Gruen Transfer vs Gruen Planet debate, rather I'm just curious for clarification on the consensus for the new series Gruen Sweat beginning tonight.

Gruen Sweat is a separate, special four part series (a la Gruen Nation http://www.thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=179051&lid=7) which focuses solely on the marketing and advertising behind the London Olympics. http://www.abc.net.au/tv/guide/abc1/201 ... 203333.htm

Will this one also be classified as a new, separate series, or is it just to be an added season in the Gruen Planet family (http://www.thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=82135&lid=7)?

Thanks!

I would argue that "Gruen Sweat" should be placed in its own entry. Apart from anything else, it makes the "Gruen Transfer/Sweat" entry even more complicated. As it is, somebody has already added artwork for Season 6 of Gruen Transfer/Plant which makes it look like the entire season will be called "Gruen Sweat", when of course the very most you could argue is that the first four episodes have that title/artwork.

"Gruen Sweat" has been given its own entry (http://thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=261012&lid=7) which means that entries called "Gruen Sweat " in the Gruen Transfer/Planet series are duplicates, and I will correct them unless somebody else stops me.

Further to this, it is quite clear that the ABC themselves consider "Gruen Sweat" a separate show:

http://www.abc.net.au/tv/gruenplanet/episodes.htm

This has the "regular" Gruen Planet episodes that followed Gruen Sweat titled "Episode 1" and "Episode 2" (so far). I could also point out that the ABC themselves are calling this "Series 2", because they consider "Gruen Planet" to be a different/spin-off show of "The Gruen Transfer". Based on this, and the fact that the air dates were already all for the non-"Gruen Sweat" episodes, I have renamed the episodes in Season 6 from "Gruen Sweat (1)", etc. to "Episode 1" etc.

Buit, IMHO, the following really needs to be done as well:

1) A new series "Gruen Planet" needs to be created and separated from The Gruen Transfer (and related banners moved too.)
2) Seasons 5 and 6 of The Gruen Transfer then need to become seasons 1 and 2 of Gruen Planet.
3) The Episode images against Series 2 of Gruen Planet (i.e. Series 6 of TGT) need to be removed as they are actually for "Gruen Sweat" episodes 1 to 4.
4) Season banners from Gruen Planet Series 2 need to be removed or moved to "Gruen Sweat". ("Gruen Sweat already has perfectly decent banners though.)

Can I have a seconder?

Pretty pissed off by all the changes being done to this without discussion.

I'll be taking a look when I get a chance.
Will deal out a spanking to whoever just removed gruen sweat from the gruen transfer listing...

I think we should just have one damn "Gruen" series, and be done with it. IT'S ALL THE SAME SHOW, PEOPLE!

OK, so the gruen situation is...

I'm sure we can all agree that there have been 8 distinct 'series' of Gruen related material.

4 Series of 'The Gruen Transfer'
2 Series of 'Gruen Planet'

and 2 'one off' 4 part series:

Gruen Nation - Aired between seasons 2 and 3 of Gruen Transfer
Gruen Sweat - Aired between seasons 1 and 2 of Gruen Planet

As far as I'm concerned, these are all the same show. They have the same key hosts and guests, the same format.
And they've had 'search for the XXXXX' special segments that span "different series".

I'm sure what the people who start threads like this want is 4 separate shows in thetvdb. Gruen Transfer, Gruen Planet, Gruen Sweat, Gruen Nation.
It ain't gonna happen like that. I can't see any way to justify anything other than one show. Which right now is called "Gruen Planet".

What makes the most sense to me is either:

Seasons 1 - 8, with Gruen Nation as season 3, and Gruen Sweat as season 7.
or
Seasons 1 - 6, with Gruen Nation as S00E01-4 and Gruen Sweat as S00E5-8.

I think the second option makes the most sense.
And I'm happy to welcome sensible discussion on this.

No discussion is sensible discussion.

Looks like I'll be moving gruen nation and gruen sweat into our Gruen Planet listing as specials.

All done. Banners moved. The few episode images there were weren't that good, so left deleted.

I'm not going to argue for any further changes, but I would point out the following:

1) When days and weeks pass waiting for "discussion" and something gets changed, Generica get's "pissed off" that something has happened "without discussion". (And in my defence, the aired dates were already for the non-Sweat episodes, so *something* needed to be corrected - either the titles or the dates.) But when a mere day passes without anyone making comment on Generica's proposal, that is deemed to be acceptance?

2) A big part of TheTVDB is about providing data to media centres. We all want our recorded shows to present nicely, with pretty banners and so on. My argument against combining all these separate shows (same format yes, similar topics, yes, but deemed by the producers to be separate series, but that counts for nothing?) is that it makes that sort of presentation difficult. Episodes of "The Gruen Transfer" now have "Gruen Planet" banners and so on. I understand the arguments for combining them all - I just don't think they're that convincing!

Anyway, like i say, I'm not arguing for further changes. Generica's changes *are* a great improvement and I can certainly work with them.

Cheers,

Michaeel

Yeah, guilty. I had been on holidays for a few weeks, and came back to find my Gruen Sweat episodes which were in as season 6 had now been deleted, since they had their own series (which isn't allowed). So I cracked the shits. I'm human.

Yep :)
I was really just putting it out there for comment, since it really was the only proper way under the current rules that we can do things.

Yep, that's a bit crap. And will hopefully be better when the new version of the site is up.
There's just no way we can justify having 4 separate seasons for the same material put out under slightly different names.

You were probably just still reeling from the Swans beating Collingwood... :)
