Please can you add support for Tapatalk to the Eye.Fi forums. It would make tracking my posts much easier. It works for most of the other forums I frequent and it would be nice to easily access the Eye.Fi forums from my iPhone and iPad.

The phpBB plugin is available here:

http://tapatalk.com/activate_tapatalk.php?plugin=phpbb

Installing it looks pretty simple...

Any chance an admin can install the plugin? XBMC forums are using it...

It would be better to just add support for a mobile theme, it's what I do on the forums I run. Tapatalk is very annoying to people who don't want to pay to view free forums since it pops up its advertising every time a mobile user visits the forum.

Is there a way to disable the popup prompts? If there is then it won't annoy anyone and will benefit Tapatalk users...

Nope, Taptalk is a for-profit company, they get money selling apps and user data, it's how they run. It's not in their best interests to be less noticeable.

According to their website this popup message can be turned off: http://tapatalk.com/faq.php

It also only prompts a new mobile visitor once anyway, not every time they visit the forum.

From their site:

Quote:
Q: Why a pop-up is shown in my mobile browser?

A: After you installed Tapatalk, a one-time alert will be shown to mobile web users to notify the Tapatalk option. While you are free to remove it during installation, it is important for us so to keep this service sustainable and free of charge to forum owners.

In my humble opinion, the benefits massively out weigh the down sides. I use Tapatalk on lots of Forums and I really like the interface on both my iPhone and iPad.

For me the best feature is having push notifications sent to my phone of PMs and replys - it means I can turn off the email updates and reduce the amount of email clutter I get. No mobile theme can do this (AFAIK)...

I admit that the app is not free but it is only a few dollars, and if you spend a lot of time on Forums it is well worth the purchase in my opinion.

I hope the admins will consider adding it. :)

Okay, let's look at what Taptalk gets in return for installing it on the site. They get full unrestricted access to our user database tables, including email addresses, encrypted passwords, any personal information, as well as access to the PM tables as well. This does not only apply to Taptalk users, it applies to every single person on this forum. What they do with all this information because the site installing this backdoor (which is exactly what it is, a backdoor script) has no way of controlling the flow of information. Installing this would be giving over control of our user database to a company that can not be guaranteed to have the same respect for the privacy of our users as we do.

You may be comfortable with this, but I really doubt most of our forum users would agree.

Oh, BTW, in my experience in dealing with forums that have it installed, that "One time only" thing really means "Every couple times" because it sets a cookie on your device whether you want to or not. So even if you don't want to use Taptalk, they will still set cookies on your mobile device.

I don't know what it's like on phpbb but on xenforo it's very erratic with the popups. One version gave me a popup the first time only, a later one does it every time on the same phone... if I wasn't so involved in that forum already I'd not bother due to the popups.

Please don't add tapatalk unless you can supress the spam message on mobile devices.

No, it does not appear just once on the first visit, it appears over and over again.

We now have a mobile theme on the site, it should be visible when using mobile devices such as an Android or iPhone. This should make browsing the site on mobile devices much easier while still giving access t the full site when needed. I have been using it on some of my websites for over a year now with great success.
