I've started an entry on http://www.lockstockmods.net with some templates, so far i've only done DVD Cover style Season banners but i plan to update the entry regularly and will include templates for series banners and season wide banners, the url is http://www.lockstockmods.net/2010/06/21 ... templates/

The current ones are pretty simple (and not that great compared to some of the skilled artists here) but hopefully they will give some people some ideas, also if anyone wants to help contribute to the series, let me know.

Any contructive criticism is welcome.

I think this is a great idea, might encourage people to add more missing fanart. Are you looking for show specific ones or just general, could be used for any show templates? I'm not too precious about my work (unless you make money from it, in which case me and some friends will be forced into a somewhat magical quest to hunt you down. There'll be swords, big spiders, arrows and more than likely I'll cry. We'll all be a little richer for the experience but, was it really worth it...?) so I'd submit stuff. In fact I might have before.

Don't be modest, those are good. Nice colour choices and composition. For the Season Banner, have you stretched the text for the Season and slogan? Please don't, it makes them look disconnected from the rest of the art. Not helpful for templates but when you want to merge to layers of similar colour, merge the separate layers and then use the smudge tool at the join. Zoomed in and no one will notice the join. :D WIth a bit of technique you could get a cleaner cut out of images as well, magic eraser isn't always that great.

The wide banners are particularly good, nothing but thumbs up there.

Hey furby thanks for the comment :) I have no intention of making any money, don't worry. I don't even have google ads, lol.

I just spent a couple of hours playing around when making those, i did the DVD cover ones first and you are right about the text, it does look a bit disconnected.

My whole intention is to try and get people interested in producing some artwork for shows, produce decent quality artwork, and give them some ideas for it, so doesn't necessarily have to be show specific and I'm open to any ideas you have.

I'll pm you my contact details so if you want to discuss it more in real time you can :) I wont be around until a bit later though, gotta go pick up the gf.

haha, I didn't mean you specifically, I may, may, have got a little carried away after watching lord of the rings that day.

Good art does take a while to do, I've spent days doing some so I'm all for encouraging others to pick up requests/new art. I only make the distinction as general is more tricky to get right but potentially more useful. Show specific might be higher up my list though, if nothing else it's more interesting and fun to do. Yes to decent quality art, that should always be what the site is striving for.

I see a pm already

Either is fine, show specific is useful in that you are generally more interested in doing artwork for a show if you are also interested in that show, as can be seen by my first submission being all House, we have just started watching house from the beginning and are already up to mid season 5 (have been watching 1-4 episodes a day, lol).

The way i have done it so far is for each type i have created 4 groups named style 1, style 2, style 3 and style 4, every layer required for each style is in the group, this means if you collapse the group you can see what each style looks like by making the group visible and hiding the other groups. I then create a jpg of all the styles next to each other, horizontally for DVD style and vertically for wide style.

*edit* I noticed you signed up on lockstockmods, i've changed your role to author

THIS IS GREAT.! Thank you for sharing....now let's take this one step further....I don't know what percentage of artwork is done using PS, but I would guess it is quite high. How about on the new site a place to save PSD Templates for a particular series, that way others would have the option of continuing your work if you were to leave...ie. same styles and such in layers with the ability to add detailed new photos and add seasons as needed...just an idea...I 've got a number of series I'd be willing to upload my templates to if there where an area per Series to do that.

Not a bad idea, if scott didn't want to do that, could potentially add it as an extra section to lockstockmods similar to how the ClearLOGOs section works, would depend on interest though, there aren't enough contributors to ClearLOGOs to fulfill all the requests (and thats with 3 or 4 regular contributors and several occasional contributors)
